Synopsis

A two-part documentary and an interactive experience by Amythos Films and the National film board of Canada with Alegria Productions France The film Exile is an investigation into the most enduring myth in Western civilization : The Roman exile of the Jewish people. But the exile, as all serious historians agree, is a myth. The truth is that the majority of the Jewish population continued to live in biblical Israel after the Roman victory. Two thousand years after the Jewish Kingdom came to an end with the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple, the story of exile and return defines Jewish identity. But if indeed Exile is a myth and Judean Jews were never exiled, how do we explain the millions living in the Diaspora. What is their origins ? What happened to those who remained in Jewish Palestine after the destruction of Jerusalem, and to their descendants? By exploring these questions Exile examines how myth shapes our identity and the role it plays in today's political conflicts. The documentary film Exile suggests an alternative view on the historical myth of the Jewish history. The film investigates the origins of the myth and proposes an alternative narrative that challenges the essence of the Jewish identity. As an enhancement to this fascinating historical journey, we are developing an interactive transmedia experience that will intrigue our diverse target audiences. The experience exists on various media platforms and utilizes technology to explore the perception of time and the way we view history.
